RG032 Peterborough as a railway centre, 1926.
NEW APRIL 2019. The main part of this file is a 7-page article which appeared in the Railway Magazine for November 1926, entitled 'Peterborough: a Great Railway Centre'.
As well as the GNR main line through Peterborough North, the GER station at Peterborough East is considered. So too are the ex-LNWR route to Rugby, the ex-MR line to Leicester, the ex-GNR junction for Lincoln and the M&GN towards South Lynn. The account is illustrated with five photographs and a map.
As a bonus, two further items are included. One is a snippet from the April 1935 issue describing a train service curiosity: a passenger wanting to go from Cambridge to Peterborough North at around 8 am would have a choice of no fewer than five different routes in the next 45 minutes, all of which would bring him to his destination within a 20 minute time span.
The second is a 3-page article from the Railway Magazine of September 1899 which provides an illustrated account of the Whittlesea brick traffic. N.B. This article also appears in File MG002.
