The GERS Files Emporium

Welcome to the GERS Files Emporium. The Files Emporium allows you to order and pay for selected items in the form of PDF files and in most cases download them directly. The Emporium stocks files of all printed items from the Sales List, plus many extra files. Our expanding collection of 'off-the-shelf' software CDs and DVDs can also be ordered here for postal delivery. Payment is via PayPal, but if you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay by credit or debit card via PayPal. Nochex is also an alternative to Paypal (cards only). To open PDF files, you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't already have it installed, you can download it from here.

When you view a detailed product page, you will see at the top a 'Brand', which may be:

  • GERS Downloadable Files
  • GERS CDs and DVDs
  • GERS Files to be sent to you.

GERS Downloadable Files

The majority of our files can be downloaded immediately after payment from the Download Area of your Account - which you can find by clicking on My Account towards the top of the sales area. There is no charge for delivery by this means: the price given for the file is what you pay.

GERS CDs and DVDs

Physical discs (CDs and DVDs) will be posted to you.

GERS Files to be sent to you

Some files cannot be immediately downloaded. There are a number of reasons why this might be the case, for example:-

  • The Journals and News are for members only, so we need to be able to control their sales;
  • The files of the annual volumes of the GER and LNER Magazines are too big to store on our web site;
  • A few items are folders rather than single files (e.g. the original pencil minutes transcriptions), and these need special treatment to be able to download them.

For such items, delivery via an Internet file delivery system ( WeTransfer or similar) is the usual method, for which we make a small charge of 20p to help to offset the administrative costs we incur in the transaction. As an alternative, at extra cost, you may opt to have them recorded onto a CD which is posted to you.

With WeTransfer, you receive an e-mail with a link, which when clicked, allows you to download the file. If you have ordered several items, they will arrive 'zipped' together into a single file. For advice about 'unzipping' files to their constituent parts, see here.

Mixed Orders

It is possible to order downloadable items and posted items in the same order, but you will only see links for the downloadable items.

Checking Out

If you are a GERS member and already have a Username and Password for the Members' area of the website, you can use this ID at checkout to avoid having to input all your address details etc. Otherwise you will be invited to create an Account at your first checkout. All this means is that as you enter your details such as name and address you create your own personal place in the Emporium, accessible by your chosen password. No card details are stored.

Some guidance on checking out via PayPal can be found here.
