TO061: Royal Agricultural Show, Ipswich 1934 - Livestock Workings to the special Show Station.
NEW MARCH 2022. In July 1934 the Royal Agricultural Show was held on farmland opposite Chantry Park, just outside Ipswich. The main part of this file is a 16-page set of special notices detailing the workings to convey livestock to the event - we thank Keith Halton for making those scans available to us.
The LNER built a Show station for the purpose. This was described as being "on the Up side of the Yarmouth line, opposite East Suffolk Junction signal box with access to the London Road and the Hadleigh Road." It was approximately one mile distant from the Show Ground (Main Entrance).
We have added a three-page extract from the LNER Magazine of August 1934 describing the work entailed for the Show. The account refers to ten photographs, but the three provided - including one of the Show station - were the only ones that actually appeared.
Our introduction includes web links to a set of air photographs of the site of the Show, a four-minute amateur film illustrating some of the stands there, and a short extract from a Pathe newsreel of the visit of Edward, Prince of Wales (later to become King until he abdicated). No further information about the Show station seems to be available, however.
The file is word-searchable. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
