M12 Class 0-6-0T 1881
The M12 Class consisted of ten locomotives built at Stratford in 1881. They were Bromley’s 0‑6-0T version of his E10 0-4-4Ts, having the same boilers, cylinders and motion. This is No. 548 in original condition. In later years back-plates were added to the cabs and other details brought up to date, whilst five received new boilers, and two of these rebuilds were also fitted with steam brakes at the same time. The last engine was withdrawn in February 1902.
