UTD.CD United in Norfolk 1919-1931
NEW MARCH 2015. ‘United in Norfolk 1919-1931’. In effect this is a digital scrapbook of local press cuttings from that period, mostly from the Eastern Daily Press with a few from the Norwich Mercury. The focus is on the United bus company (the forerunner of Eastern Counties in the area), but these cuttings relate to other transport matters too, including the Norwich trams and the GER/LNER, plus some adverts which give the flavour of the times. There is a striking picture of the ill-fated R101 airship over Norwich Thorpe station, and two good newspaper photographs of an almost new engine ‘of the Gunton type’ on its side after an accident which befell a Norwich train at Tottenham.
The cuttings were assembled by Jack Burton and were made available as scans by Philip Battersby, both bus enthusiasts, who have kindly agreed that we may use them; the GERS contribution has been to assemble the 286 separate JPG ‘pages’ into ten PDF ‘scrapbooks’; to arrange them in two formats, one for browsing, the other for reading; to make them word-searchable (as far as the ancient newspaper fonts would allow); and to provide a single search facility for them all.
One additional guidance file concerning help with the search facility is very recent and is not on the CD: you may download that HERE.
If you place an order for this item here, the CD will be posted to you. A charge to cover postage and packing is added at the checkout before you commit yourself to buy.
You may also download all the files on it directly for a smaller price. That way you save the postage supplement too, and avoid having to wait for the mail to arrive. You can do that HERE.
