RG029 The Norfolk Lines of the LNER
NEW OCTOBER 2017. This is a set of articles which appeared in the Railway Magazine for February, March and May 1929, entitled 'The Norfolk Lines of the London and North Eastern Railway''. They were written by J F Gairns.
It provides quite a comprehensive survey of the lines in Norfolk owned solely or jointly by the LNER - their history, their features and their traffic. Mr Gairns's own photographs are used. These are of Narborough, Tivetshall, Fordham (strangely, because it's in Cambridgeshire!), Dereham, Wells, Kings Lynn and Sheringham. There is a railway map of Norfolk "showing also rivers, waterways and the Broads".
An extra is a photograph of F3 8065 at Witham, which filled a spare half page at the end of the articles. The May 1929 issue also reported the closure of the Southwold Railway with a photograph of a station scene, and this too is in the file as a bonus.
