TO064: Liverpool Street Station Platform Workings, Summer 1956.
NEW SEPTEMBER 2022. This is a 48-page book produced by the Eastern Region of British Railways. It describes the planned Liverpool Street platform workings from 11 June to 16 September 1956.
The book starts with information about each platform - which running lines it may be accessed from, its length from buffer stop to track circuit joint and a table giving the maximum number of coaches of various lengths it can accommodate with a tender engine on each end. Also provided are the lengths of other trains (e.g. an 8-coach Southend set and a 9-coach electric) plus that of certain items of rolling stock (e.g. CCT vans and horse boxes).
Every page in the rest of the book consists of a big table. The left hand half is for arrivals and the right hand side is for departures. In both halves is a column for each platform. Every successive line in the table records a single arrival or departure, listed in chronological order starting from midnight. This timing is recorded in the column for the platform the train uses, and other information given for an entry is its origin or destination and the intended running lines for it.
There are three sets of these tables: Mondays to Fridays; Saturdays; and Sundays. A bookmark is provided to the start of each one.
We must thank our member Brain Hornsey for providing these scans. He sells very good hard-copies of a wide selection of steam-era working timetables which you may find of interest. His website is to be found at http://wttreprints.uk/ which you can visit HERE.
