MP047: The London Docks c. 1960.
NEW DECEMBER 2021. This is a map of the Docks issued by the Port of London Authority. It informs us it was updated in March 1964 - probably in order to add the extension being constructed at Tilbury. The date of the original drawing is not stated, but the first revision is given as January 1955.
It is to a scale such that one inch represents just under 2000 feet, so a mile is a little over 2.5 inches. The full title is 'Plan of the docks shewing road access, rail connections, ships berths, warehouses, transit sheds, dock offices, etc.'
Working downstream, it includes the St Katharine Docks; London Docks; the Regents Canal Dock; Surrey Commercial Docks; West India Docks; Millwall Docks; East India Dock; Royal Victoria & Albert and King George V Docks; and the Tilbury Docks (on a separate section of the map). Other features of the Thames are shown such as the Woolwich Ferry and Subway, and the landing stages on each bank for the ferry between Tilbury Riverside station and Gravesend.
The map is printed on card and comes in eight folds. If you purchase it you will receive two files. The second one shows what is printed on the reverse side - the front cover, the back cover and in between them three panels providing information about the Port of London Authority (each spread over two of the folds).
