TP022 Timetables during the Closure of Ipswich Tunnel 2004
NEW MARCH 2016. During the summer of 2004 Ipswich tunnel was adapted to accommodate larger freight containers on their way to Felixstowe. The work entailed lowering the level of the track and meant that the tunnel was completely closed for traffic for almost two months.
This is a copy of the 31-page brochure issued to the public to inform them of the travel arrangements between 11 July and 5 September. The front cover gives an overall diagrammatic map of the plans: it may be thought that we are supplying you with a black-and-white scan of what was a coloured drawing, but in fact the original was in black-and-white as well.
There was a regular bus service provided between Ipswich and Manningtree which connected with the trains. At peak times there were additional buses direct to Manningtree from places such as Felixstowe and Stowmarket, while Norwich passengers were offered a non-stop London train which went via Cambridge.
Car parking at Manningtree was limited, and the brochure describes the special arrangements available. It provides timetables for the integrated train and bus services between Liverpool Street and Norwich, both on weekdays and at weekends.
