SG064 Signalling Diagrams from some GN & GE Joint Locations
NEW OCTOBER 2017. The signalling diagrams have been hand-drawn by our late member John Bennett, in most cases from maps accompanying Board of Trade Reports produced after inspections which followed changes in the layout. These he consulted at the National Archives at Kew.
He was very happy to make them available to all who may be interested, and we are grateful for that.
Here we have two diagrams for Sleaford, plus one near the north end of the GN&GE Joint line and one of Black Carr Junction, where it ends as it joins the East Coast Main Line. These are followed by six further drawings showing the route from there in to Doncaster Station passing amidst the bewildering array of sidings and junctions.
The locations featured in the ten diagrams and the dates represented are:-
Sleaford West (1919); Sleaford East (1900); Bessacarr Halt and Junction (1912); Black Carr Junction (1894); Childers Drain and Potteric Carr Signal Boxes (1895 and 1909 respectively); Decoy No. 1 and Decoy No. 2 Signal Boxes (1896); Red Bank and Carr Signal Boxes (1896); Balby Junction Signal Box (1899); Sand Bank and Bridge Junction Signal Boxes (1910); and South Yorkshire Junction Signal Box (1891) and Doncaster South Signal Box (1910).
