Much of the book is concerned with coupling and uncoupling them (far more complicated than might be expected!): the locomotives described are classes 20, 25, 26, 27, 31, 37, 40 and 50 plus special instructions for connecting them to a class 33 locomotive and for connecting a class 33/1 to a class 442 (TC) train.

Two pages deal with operating trains with locomotives in multiple, especially with regard to the braking systems fitted. The book also describes the procedure for changing ends, and what to do if one of the locomotives in multiple fails.
