NEW FEBRUARY 2025.  The Maldon Witham & Braintree Railway was designed to connect the town of Braintree with the port of Maldon.  It was to cross the main line of the Eastern Counties Railway at Witham.

Plans were deposited in Parliament in 1845, and assent was granted the following year. The ECR was not against the proposal (partly perhaps because its Chairman  David Waddington was keen to get re-elected MP for his Maldon constituency). Indeed in September 1846 they offered to purchase the railway, even though it was not yet constructed.

There are two sets of minutes here. The first, RAIL 451/1, is of the Promoters' and Shareholders' meetings from the beginning in 1845 until the ECR took over in 1847. The second, RAIL 451/2, is the Directors' meetings from when they were first appointed in 1846 to 1847.
