MN027 Meetings of the Tottenham & Hampstead Junction Joint Committee 1885-1929.
NEW JULY 2023. The Tottenham & Hampstead Junction Railway, originally an independent concern, ran from near Kentish Town on the Midland Railway’s London Extension across to Tottenham.
From 1885 it was run jointly by the Midland Railway and the GER. For the Midland it gave access to the London Docks, while with associated extra running powers it gave the GER the use of a West End terminus, St Pancras. They located their Tufnell Park goods depot near the Midland end of the line, to serve the Metropolitan Cattle Market at Holloway.
These minutes deal with the Joint Committee (composed equally of members appointed by the GER and by the Midland) from their very first meeting in 1885, and occupy 70 pages of this file. As a bonus the file also provides a brief history of the line plus the 1914 Clearing House map of it.
For the minutes we have to thank our member Philip Everett (2319), who compiled them from the original minute book held at Kew under their reference 697/6.
