NEW DECEMBER 2021. This is a 24-page card-covered book entitled 'Handbook of instructions relating to carriage cleaning and servicing'. It was issued by the Eastern Region of British Railways at Liverpool Street in September 1955. At the back are two loose pages of later amendments, undated.

It specifies the cleaning routine for passenger stock, and gives instructons for how it was to be carried out. You can see the contents HERE. At the end is a list of carriage cleaning depots on the Eastern Region - all were equipped for vacuum cleaning, and just a favoured few had carriage washers installed.
