RH093: The Present Plight of the Railways, May 1932.
NEW DECEMBER 2021. On 12 May 1932, The Times newspaper contained a leading article under the heading 'The Problem of the Railways'. That issue also featured the first of six articles on the subject. Another Times leader, 'Rail, Road and the Public', rounded the series off.
The paper then published the complete text as a 32-page booklet, price threepence. This is what is on offer here.
The six special articles are tiltled: 1 Loss and the losers - a world decline in figures; 2 Protecting the public - Government regulation and its effects; 3 Rivalry by road - a serious flank attack; 4 Reform and experiment - meeting the new conditions; 5 Is the road cheaper? A true view of costs; and 6 Between two systems - how to get the best from both.
