For enthusiasts, researchers and modellers of the Great Eastern Railway

RCJ.DL: The Journals of the Railway Club, December 1906 to October 1911.

NEW OCTOBER 2021.  This provides you with scans of an unbroken run of 59 monthly Journals of the Railway Club from December 1906 to October 1911, together with files of additional information and a facility for performing a single word-search of them all.

The Railway Club was founded in 1899, and claimed to be the oldest society for railway enthusiasts in the world. In its early days its membership included many of the 'big' names of the time - G A Sekon, J F Gairns and the like.

Their Journals which you will receive contain news about Club events which had happened or were planned - talks, visits, smoking concerts and so on.  The main part consists of news gleaned about what the Railways were doing, accounts of runs experienced and articles of general railway interest, sometimes based on papers read at meetings. Bearing in mind the expertise they had to call on, their standard was generally high. To help you with browsing, items related to the GER or the LTSR have been marked with a red line alongside them in the margin.

The font is small but clear, but there are no illustrations.  In two issues, however, a photograph taken at their recent annual dinner was tucked in, accompanied by a chart showing the names of the individuals there. On another occasion an account of a Club visit to a miniature railway near Towcester concluded with the sentence "Photographs of the train and of the party were taken by Mr. W. J. Bell, of the Locomotive Publishing Co., and post-cards are now obtainable." One of those postcards has been tracked down, and a bonus file you will get contains a scan of that: one person on it has been identified as Henry Greenly, the author of classic early books on modelling who Wikipedia describes as "amongst the foremost miniature railway engineers of the 20th century, remembered as a master of engineering design".

If you are unsure whether to purchase these Journals, you may prefer to invest £1.00 in just one anuual volume first - to do that, go to MG019. If you then do decide to get them all from here, you can now claim that £1.00 you have already spent off the price.

Instead of a download, you may acquire exactly the same set of files on a CD by going HERE.  The CD will cost you £1 more, however, and of course you will also be charged a supplement towards post and packing and will have to wait for the mail to arrive.

You download a link to click on. Choose 'save' and wait several seconds for it all to download. This will give you a zipped folder - if you have a PC, right-click on the folder to get a menu, then select 'Extract all ...' or 'Unzip ...'

It will be available as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
