RE029 GER Opening of Line from Shenfield to Southend in 1889
NEW MARCH 2014. A two-page notice dated 31 December 1888 entitled 'The opening of the first section of the Essex lines from Shenfield Junction to Wickford to passenger as well as goods traffic'. This opening took place on the following day, 1 January 1889.
This file also includes a second four-page document, Special Order R.3134 dated 3 October 1889, relating to train reporting over the Essex lines from Shenfield Junction all the way through to Southend.
These documents are in poor condition, and one of the pages has suffered a large loss from one corner as shown in the thumbnail picture. All the text is still present and readable, however.
They complement other official documents concerning the opening of the Essex lines in 1889 which are available as File RE022.
