This 7mm layout is set in the British Railway period with Lynnstone Regis Station terminus in the garage and Cley Quay Station at the other end of the garden in a large shed, with Upham Market Station mid-way. Being a professional signal engineer the railway is authentically controlled with appropriate signal and block instruments.

Lynnstone Regis is a play on the noted M&GN expert R H Clarke’s references to Lynn Regis in his book on the line, and the yard in the shed is called Chellow, which is a play on words; Cello being a big fiddle!

Lynnstone photographs:
from top to bottom: Goods yard, Loco depot, and reception sidings.  The line in the immediate right-hand foreground leads over the lifting flap into the goods yard.

Upham Market Station

Upham Market signalbox on the down platform, is a Bassett Lowke model. The signal (needing a replacement finial) is the up direction, down platform signal. The top arm applies to the branch head-shunt. Middle arm to the Cley branch and the lower arm, to Up main towards Chellow Yard.

Block shelf and wiring!

The 50-lever frame is what is used at Upham Market, the junction in the garden.

The black cable is the main cable, and the two grey cables plug into the block instruments. The green box on the left-hand end connects the single line between Upham and Cley to the appropriate controller. There is a similar box at Cley. These are a rather crude substitute for tablet machines, which would have seen use at Upham and Cley.

The layout was described in detail in The Gauge O Guild Gazette November 2020 issue.
