Hello and welcome to the GERS SUMMER 2021 MODELLING SHOWCASE

This Showcase is a new addition to the GERS Website and contains many examples of models of, or inspired by, the diverse railways of East Anglia and East London. Most of the modelling is by GERS Members but we have some “Guest contributions”. It is the first of what we hope will be an occasional series of Showcase.

At your leisure you will be able to see nearly 60 exhibits including 25 layouts, a host of individual models depicting the railways of East Anglia and East London and some Digital Modelling. There are also links to films of GER based layouts on Youtube.

The Showcase is divided into four Topic areas:·

  • This Welcome and Guide·
  • Layouts·
  • Mixed Bag·
  • Virtual Modelling.

Please use the navigation tools, and your backspace button, to have a look around. Unlike many “Virtual Model Railway Exhibitions”, this Showcase is permanent.

Allas, like unlike some Forums, you will not be able to comment on what you see. Unless you are a GERS member, please also ignore any “log in” buttons.

Modelling and the GERS

A significant factor in the founding of the GERS was the desire of the founding members to collate known information about the GER for modelling purposes. Whilst the Society has blossomed into one of the leading historical societies, a significant proportion of the membership are modellers, many of whom joined the society specifically to support their modelling.

This Showcase is the first major effort to show off the models created by these members.

A note for Model Railway Magazine Editors, Authors, Layout Owners and Professional Model Photographers

It is the ambition of the GERS to receive, conserve, and publish online, the many wonderful East Anglian Layouts and Models featured in the Model Railway Press over the best part of a Century. The GERS would be pleased to receive material that has been published but which has no permanent home to which access can be gained. For some, these models can be as important a part of history as the real thing.

Please could Editors, Authors and Photographers get in contact with our Railway Modelling Coordinator via the Contacts page on the Website.

 Will there be another Showcase?

Our Summer Showcase 2021 is the first of what we hope will be a feature published from time to time. For future Contributions, a new Showcase (Showcase 2) has been opened within the Forum and we encourage Members to make contributions of their models, new and old, there. We also encourage Members who know non-members with East Anglian area Models to step forward so we can arrange these to be featured. Over time we hope the GERS can provide an archive for “historical models of the East Anglian railway scene”.

Please enjoy the exhibits!
