I have a British Railways Eastern Operating Area WTT for 1951, covering the Colchester Main Line. Where later timetables give a train load classification, this WTT gives classes. Class A and Class B are obviously passenger and Class C Parcels, then Class D to H must be various goods and other train types, light engine, ECS, etc.
Can anyone supply a breakdown of these classes in more detail, please? Are they power ratings or type of train? Is it possible to relate this rating to locomotive classes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

This link should help to throw light on the subject:
www.scalefour.org/resources/headcodes.html

Yes, it's headcodes, but it does give a description of what the headcode meant by type of train

Pre-1965(ish) Trains were simply listed by Class so A/B/C/D etc, as well as No.1 and No.2 Goods & Parcels on the LNER. Unlike TOPS headcodes - 5A55 for example
