TO048 Train Workings in the GE Area on a Holiday Saturday in 1981
NEW AUGUST 2018. Members of the Norfolk Railway Society carried out five traffic censuses in the late 1950s and early 1960s, all of whose reports are available in the Files Emporium. On Saturday 25 July 1981 the exercise was repeated. Observers were stationed at Norwich, Ely North Junction, East Suffolk Junction at Ipswich and Liverpool Street.
No report exists, but the findings are listed in four A4 pages of hand-written tables. These record trains from Peterborough, the Midlands and the North down the Ely line; trains up the Ely line to the Midlands and the North, plus one to London; main line train departures from Liverpool Street to Norwich, Yarmouth Vauxhall, Lowestoft and Lynn; and trains from Norwich to Ipswich and Liverpool Street.
For each train the information supplied is its reporting number; its locomotive; its load; and scheduled and actual arrival and departure times at the recording points.
The file is provided with bookmarks to take you to each of the main parts of the report. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made. You go to your account and click on ‘Downloads’. New customers create an account as they place their order.
