RH053 The Development of Railways in Britain
NEW JANUARY 2018. In 1945 Collins published a small hardback book in its series 'Britain in Pictures'. The title was 'British Railways', and it was written by Arthur Elton. There were forty-eight pages of text which included thirty-two black-and-white drawings. In addition there were eight very pleasant full-page coloured illustrations.
The book provided an account of the historical development of the railways in Britain suitable for the general reader. The titles of the chapters were: before steam; the locomotive; the first public railway; railway building; the railways spread; underground; and the twentieth century.
The file is taken from the second edition, which came out in 1947. It is word-searchable and has bookmarks to the main sections. It will be available to download as soon as payment has been made.
