NEW FEBRUARY 2022. The class 73 locomotives were electro-diesel - they could pick up power from the SR's third rail system and could also run on diesel power. None were based in our area, therefore, but some did visit it occasionally on special workings, operating as diesels of course.

They were introduced in 1962. Initially they were numbered in the series E60xx, but later became 73xxx.

The book which was scanned is dated 1981. It is card-covered and has 72 pages, displayed in this file as two-page spreads. There are several line drawings but no photographs.
