LTS006: Peter Kay's GE Journal Articles on the LT&SR.
NEW OCTOBER 2020. Our member Peter Kay has recently published the final volume, No. 8, of his history of the LT&SR (The London, Tilbury & Southend Railway – a history of the company and line; ISBN 9781899890521).
In it, he notes on page 681 that there are three articles that he has written about the LTSR which have appeared in the Great Eastern Journal. For copyright reasons, this magazine is made available only to members of the Great Eastern Railway Society. However, the GERS recognises that it would be beneficial to make available to as wide an audience as possible any articles that complement the published LTSR history.
With the agreement of Peter and of Bill King, the GE Journal Editor, those articles have therefore been put together here - for the convenience of our members, and so that non-members may access them for the first time.
The articles are Railways in the Blood (Bill Hearn, LT&SR Station Master), from Journal 84; The Bow Junction Dispute 1849-1854, from Journal 93; and Building the Ockendon Branch, from Journal 171.
We have added as a bonus a more recent article from Journal 183 concerning the LTSR conciliation committees of which Peter was a joint author with Barry Jackson.
