It was intended for the general public and provides all sorts of statistics for 1979, often with corresponding values for some previous years as well.

It covers a summary of principal statistics; government support for transport; rail passenger journeys; railfreight; rail express parcels; energy and environmental factors; international comparisons; BR as foreigh currency earner; and BR's other businesses. There are many graphics and several somewhat psychedelic coloured drawings included to help to lighten its overall appearance, but no photographs.
