It was intended for the general public and provides all sorts of statistics for 1977, often with corresponding values for some previous years as well.

It deals with government support for transport; rail passenger journeys; railfreight; rail express parcels; rail operations; energy and environmental factors; international comparisons; BR as foreigh currency earner; and BR's other businesses. There are many graphics and a couple of photographs included to help to lighten its overall appearance.
