RG030 The Wisbech and Upwell Tramway
NEW OCTOBER 2017. The main part of this file is an article which appeared in the Railway Magazine for February 1899, entitled 'The Wisbech and Upwell Tramway''. It was written by Scott Damant, who was described as one of the General Manager's Staff at the GER.
He considers light railways in general and this line in particular. He discusses its history, the route itself, the locomotives and the passenger stock. There are five photographs, a map, a drawing of a section of the rail used, the 1899 timetable and a fares table.
As a bonus, the final page comes from the Locomotive Magazine of 26 December 1903. It marks the appearance of the first 0-6-0 version of the GER tram engine (GER class C53, LNER J70). As well as the description, a photograph is included and a fully-dimensioned drawing of its side view.
