THE HALF YEARLY MEETING of the GERS will be on Saturday 21st October 2017, in the Waterfront Building, University Campus Suffolk, 19 Neptune Quay, Fore Street, Ipswich, Suffolk. IP4 1QJ

10.00 Meeting opens. Time to buy your raffle tickets, GERS sales items, second hand magazines/ books/ videos etc.

10.55 Chairman opens meeting.

11.00 Talk by Paul Ager, Divisional Port Manager, entitled ‘ABP in the East of England, helping trade happen – The Port of Ipswich’.

12.00 Lunch break. Sales stands open, Buy your raffle tickets.

13.15 Society announcements followed by the presentation of the 2016 Harry Jones Award.

13.30 Presentation by Andrew Everett on ‘Sancton Wood 1815 – 1886, Architect of Ipswich Station’.

14.30 Refreshment Break.

14.50 Raffle draw

15.00 Talk by the Chair of Trustees of Ipswich Transport Museum, Chris Turland, entitled ‘Made in Ipswich’.

16.00 Final circulation and clearing up.

Alternatively if you would like a 15 minute walk then turn right out of the station and walk along Burrell Road turning left at the end of the road. Walk over the River Orwell keeping right and then follow the riverside walk past the old Custom House to the UCS building.

There is Engineering Work between Liverpool Street and Ingatestone. If you are coming from London then travel to Newbury Park and catch the connecting coaches to Ingatestone. Allow plenty of time and consult Journey Planner. There is also Engineering Work affecting trains into Norwich from the east. Check for details.

There is a Free Car park opposite the venue.

44th Annual General Meeting of the GERS

 

THE 44th AGM of the GERS will be held at 13.30 on Saturday 18th March 2017 at the Brentwood Theatre, Shenfield Road, Brentwood, Essex and we hope as many members as possible will attend the full programme from 10.00.

Nominations for the posts of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer plus the four other members of the Executive Committee must be made in writing and received by the Secretary before 6th March 2017.

Tea, coffee, & biscuits will be available during the day, second hand books/ videos/ DVDs/ magazines and GER paperwork will be on sale and Barry Jackson will be selling and taking orders for items from the GERS Sales List.

Brentwood Theatre is located behind “The Hermitage” on Shenfield Road, 90 yards from Wilson’s Corner roundabout. Their car park is not usually available for theatre users. Members with sales/ display material or elderly/ infirm colleagues can gain access on arrival at the barrier. Vehicles enter a gateway alongside The Hermitage.

There are various car parks; plus on-street parking in Sawyers Hall Lane. The Council Office car park in Ingrave Road is NO LONGER a free Saturday shopper’s car park. The North Road car park is about eight minutes walk from the theatre but is a pay car park. Do not park in Sainsbury’s Car Park

From Marks Tey Station it is a 10 minute level walk to the venue. Turn right out of the station entrance and walk along Station Road until you reach a roundabout. Cross over a walk along Coggershall Road and turn left into Old London Road and the Village Hall is on the right. If you are coming by car the venue is just off the A12 (see map below) and car parking is available just outside the Hall.

Engineering Work . Major engineering work is taking place at locations between Liver-pool Street and Witham. There will be no service between Liver-pool Street and Witham/ Billericay and passengers should use the replacement buses between Witham/ Billericay and Newbury Park

If you require sandwiches then from the station cross the road and walk over the A12 and turn left and on the right there is a sandwich shop that is open until 1230 so it may be better to purchase before you arrive at the hall.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Mark Baker will also be displaying his exhibition on Captain Fryatt in an adjoining hall. The full exhibition was shown in Harwich from 23rd to 31st July 2016.
